THE PUMP ACT

Babies who are breastfed have a lower risk of obesity and many other illnesses and diseases. The Black Women’s Policy Center is working with local companies to develop workplace policies that align with the Providing Urgent Maternal Protections for Nursing Mothers Act (PUMP Act), which gives nursing mothers the right to break time and private space to pump milk during the workday. THE PA Momnibus

The Pennsylvania General Assembly now has a Black Maternal Health Caucus championed by Allegheny County’s Rep. LaTasha D. Mayes! Out of this committee, the first PA Momnibus was born to address the maternal disparities Black women in PA face.

ABOUT THE MOMNIBUS:

The PA Momnibus is a comprehensive legislative package crafted for Pennsylvania to directly confront the staggering rate of Black maternal mortality and morbidity in our Commonwealth. The Momnibus addresses critical disparities in maternal healthcare, including measures to improve access to essential services and eliminate maternal health deserts. The package of legislation would establish programs to tackle social determinants of health and provide essential resources and support to new moms and postpartum people. Together, these proposals represent a significant step toward promoting maternal health equity and ensuring the well-being of all moms and birthing people in Pennsylvania.
